Speed Interviewing – International Students

The NT’s hospitality and tourism industries are facing acute skill and staff shortages, in what will hopefully be a busy tourism season this year throughout the NT.

Hospitality NT has launched several campaigns aimed at raising awareness of the job, career or even second job or causal hours that are available right now in hospitality businesses.

“We are hearing from businesses on a daily basis looking for employees – they want managers, cooks, chefs, baristas, waiters, bartenders, duty managers, marketing and social media professionals – literally every position within our industry,” said Hospitality NT CEO, Alex Bruce.

Last week Hospitality NT partnered with StudyNT and Tourism NT to hold a ‘Speed Interviewing’ event with international students.

Hosted by restaurateur Martin Bouchier at Phat Mango, ten local hospitality employers ranging from large accommodation hotels to restaurants and small bars conducted ‘speed interviews’ with 17 students.

Jobs available were baristas, food and beverage attendants, kitchen hands, bar and event staff, receptionists and many more.

“This event was the tip of the iceberg and we hope to grow the number of students working in our industry.

“We are looking at every avenue to fill our shortages and are calling on Territorians to consider taking up a second job and helping us out,” said Mr. Bruce.
